One of these mountain-inspired log cabins is currently listed for sale just across from The Farms of Turkey Run on 5620 Blenheim Road. Known at “The Log Cabin”, this 4,000+ square foot home was recently built by Dan Spear and his team at Spear Builders. Dan fell in love with the neighborhood explaining that he was particularly interested in the history of Blenheim Road- he chose this 22 acre lot, “To be under the shadow of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.”

Upon entering this upscale cabin Dan’s interest in history becomes apparent. Throughout the home there is a creative juxtaposition between the old and the new with mixed metals fixtures designed around the hand hewed oak wood that comprises the bones of the structure. “My favorite part of the house,” Dan explains, “was to be able to blend old with new. Salvagewrights in Orange, Virginia assembled the vintage logs dating pre Civil War. The bathroom vanities were all furniture grade pieces converted to vanities. The half bath on the main floor has a hand cranked creamer converted to a vanity. Inspiration came from my appreciation of the skillset to be able to use a fallen tree and then blend the old school craftsmanship to today’s modern thinking.”

The thought was to create something truly special that incorporates locally sourced and historic materials without compromising modern luxuries including fully loaded chef’s kitchen, semi-open floor plan and green and energy efficient features. “It was important to us to incorporate sustainability into the home. The majority of the lighting is LED, oak floors and cabinets are from sustainable oak tree farms in Virginia, all appliances are energy efficient and exterior walls are sprayfoam for a high grade of energy efficiency,” Dan noted.
